Dear Abi,

If everything has gone according to plan, you will be reading this a few hours after you have already said goodbye to me. If you aren't reading this . . . well then I'm going to have a problem with the person who delivered your flowers because this website was supposed to be on it. :-) Anyway, I wanted to show you how much I love you, so I thought the best way to do that was to utilize my skills as a web designer to make this page for you. I know it isn't much, and some of the code is terrible, but I wanted to leave you with something.

There are three sections of this website: Home, "I Miss You" Letters, and Email T. Bear. Home is where you are at now, and Email T. Bear is where you can email me without using a Yahoo! story if you so wish. The place where you will probably spend most of your time though is "I Miss You" Letters.

The "I Miss You" Letters contain some pretty crazy code that I wrote before I left. I am praying very hard that it all works according to my calculations. If it works, a new letter will be available for you to read everyday from June 1st until June 7th. I'll be back in port by 8am on the 8th, so I can just call you then, but I'm giving you seven days of letters to read while I'm away. Each letter will be available for you to read as many times as you want after it first shows up, so don't worry about having to print them out or anything. In addition, each letter will include a "song of the day" with a link to download the song and a link to the lyrics. The letters will be available for you to read everyday at noon. The only exception is the first letter which will appear on June 1st at 6pm because if I gave it to you at noon, you would still be talking to me.

If you remember, I mentioned that this had a lot to do with math. This will probably make more sense after the letters start appearing. To get them to appear at a specific time, I had to calculate the exact number of seconds between the date and January 1, 1970, at 12am. Needless to say, it wasn't very easy, but I'm optimistic. I hope my math is good enough to make this work.

However, I am prepared for the possibility that this will not work. As you know, I left you with some letters with specific dates and times on them. If the letters do not appear online by the time I listed on the envelope, you may open the envelope to read what I wrote. Actually, you can open the letters after you read it online to see my handwriting if you wish, but please wait until it appears online, or if they don't show up, until it is the date and time listed on the envelope.

I thought about just writing you letters for you to read everyday, but I thought this was more "me." In addition, it took a lot more time for me to make this website (probably 30+ hours for the website and hours more for the content), and you can read the letters anywhere at any time. I know you have school for part of this week, so I thought I'd make it easy for you to go to this website and read the letters and show all your friends. I hope you like it!

I love you so much, babe. I'll be thinking about you everyday. I'll take extra good care of your teddy bear, so don't worry about him. If you ever really start to miss me, just smell my clothes so you can be reminded of me. I love you, and I always will. I'll see you when I get back, and I'll make it up to you for leaving you for a week. :-)

With lots of love,
Alex

P.S. If you don't have your speakers on, you might want to turn them on. I'm sure you will recognize the song.
